My Experience with NLP in Parenting – Spelling Strategy

When my child started going to school I was excited as any other parent. I wanted my child to learn everything at her best potential. Her school started teaching her Phonics for reading and writing. I had to learn the technique as it was completely new for me. When I started going into depth, I found that most of the English language spellings are different from their sounds! And that led to confusion for my child. How do we spell “Phonics” based on sound, asked my child…she spelled it as “fonix”

That made me think and I started searching for other techniques. While doing that I came across the NLP spelling strategy. Being a corporate trainer, I had already heard about NLP which stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming, in the context of self development. Its application in making kids learn spellings made me more curious.

That curiosity led me to complete my NLP practitioner, master practitioner and trainer certification, which is altogether a completely different story. However, at every stage of NLP certification I was blown away by the extent of its application…Especially for children… this led me to explore about it more… I applied the NLP spelling strategy not only for my own child but have helped her friends too to get the technique. I found that it’s extremely beneficial that the parents invest some time, energy and efforts to learn this technique so that they can guide the children during their studies. It’s beneficial for the teachers too…

The spelling strategy in NLP is created by observing the best spellers in the world. What is it that the best spellers do? What they say to themselves? How do they feel while making the spelling? A step by step approach to these questions led to the evolution of the spelling strategy…using which the child can spell the word forward as well as backward. We have all the resources we need to learn new things. Same applies to our children. It depends on us adults how we guide them to manage the software’s in their brains. My curiosity led me to explore what other techniques of NLP I can utilize for my child? And every day I started getting my answers.

Once my daughter had to prepare for a science project. She was a bit nervous and didn’t have a clear picture of how she is going to explain the science project to the parents who will be coming to see the project. Again NLP came to the rescue, I used the technique of visualization, anchoring, and sub modalities.

Result? The teachers came and started telling me that my daughter is doing amazingly well…And that gave another proof to me that NLP works amazingly in parenting. Extremely happy by the result, I started collecting more such proofs to be very sure that the techniques work with children. And now I am totally convinced that if applied consistently, these techniques can make a huge difference in the lives of children and parents. It will make their bond stronger, both can have a richer quality of emotions and hence rich, vivid memories and loving bond to share. By applying NLP, I started putting my parental goals in place and I am very consciously creating a bond with my children which will act as bouncing board for them in their future. Are you willing to do the same? Do you want to be an active facilitator in your child’s learning and growth? Are you curious enough to learn the NLP techniques that can be used in parenting?
